About
My Story
I was born in Innsbruck, Austria. As the oldest of seven children, I grew up in a small farming village located high in the Alps. At age 15, I passed an acceptance exam to the renowned Kramsach Glasfachschule, a four-year glass technical school. I received an all-encompassing arts education and learned extensively about glass, including its chemistry and art history. I graduated with a degree in Glasveredelung, specializing in glass engraving.
I chose art glass engraving as my field of expertise because of its complexity. Hand engraving on glass is a unique art form that demands years of diligent practice to truly master. To create in glass with spinning wheels on spindles requires prestigious skill, talent, and patience. There are very few practitioners of this traditional art form left in the world. I am one of a dying breed of glass artisans.
Throughout my career, I created hundreds of original art pieces. Private and corporate art glass collectors seek out my glasswork. Starting in the 1990s, Steuben Glass representatives from Corning, New York, have repeatedly asked me to come and work for them. My answer is always the same: “I’m happy where I am.” I prefer working in my Torpedo Factory studio, sharing my skills with the public. Art glass engraving is my life’s work!
